World of Threads Festival 2007 Presents "The Sixteen by 18"

To honour Oakville's Sesquicentennial in 2007, an image representing Oakville's history and setting was chosen to be interpreted in various fibre arts techniques. The Oakville Museum granted permission to the World of Threads Festival to reproduce "The Mill on the Sixteen" (1856) oil painting. A copy of the original painting was divided into 16 sections. Members of five Oakville guilds were asked to translate their piece of the puzzle, using their chosen fibre arts techniques including weaving, hooking, tatting, quilting, stitching and beading. The creation of the entire work took approximately 280 hours to complete. The result was "The Sixteen by 18".  Dennis De Carli of The Framing Den provided the final framing touch as a donation in kind. The World of Threads Festival goes from February 23 to March 4.

The finished creation The Sixteen by 18.  280 hours later.
